“Sonnet in Honour of the Feast of Kamál or “Perfection”

Bahá’ís throughout the world gather today within the First Day of the Month of Kamál [Perfection] to celebrate the first day of the Bahá’í Month of Kamál.

“Sonnet in Honour of the Feast of Kamál or “Perfection”

Perfections and brief mortality lag for moments in a guarantee
Beyond the waiting grave; even in the womb, fluctuations
At the departure gate defy instinct and extinction in comic reproduction
Of the maelstrom. Carnivores in chaos renew the glaring tragedies
Of immortality as does sleep, a nightly purgative to all dreams.
Propinquity reviewed in bold idyllic matter turns matter to energies
In physical perception, penned at the pleasure of humanity–
The beverage curious and exotic–the poets’ ink ensuring every species’
Flourishing beyond the naked flesh of bodies in the simple rite of birth.
Apoapsis and the periapsis of the peoples’ need from the outer steppes
Of gravity and evolution to the thing desired,
re-created, wild and sculpted blossoms
Of the promise of ends in all beginnings,
millennia, themselves but steps
beyond the fallible suspicion of man or book,
the good shaman’s vain and futile search.
Yet even here, the contemplation
of a bowl of hemlock, perhaps to think:
If I fast forever, so will I dream as long;
and if I thirst forever,
Then, as surely I will someday drink.

“Diversions Mount”

“Diversions Mount”

Diversions mount, but decisions are determined
And timing in celestial spheres and signs
Are not paused for dilatory motives nor do the blind
So easily blot out the sun. Some there are who enter
Darkness seeking the mercurial stations of the tongue, the move
From where they are to where they divine they must
Be without so much as limb or wing but straight through the dust
To strike pavilions over what is not and never could be a truth. Note all who’ve
Owned a cause to glorify the effects of blows to obfuscate, to conceive a sure
Obstruction of all evidence, nothing more. “In My Father’s House
Are many mansions,” written plainly in orchestrated independent clauses;
The caveat in escrow, the final contract awaits the ink *and “If it were
Not so,” He would have writ the mystery of galaxies and stars
as when polemic balances mark the seasons’ endless cosmic scars.

“The Cry of Millions”

“The Cry of Millions”

The cry of millions not yet heard; the righteous lights
Of all the world mirrored flaws along the walls while Versailles
Gainsaid the obvious until the glass was shattered, veils
Were rent and more than one child began to cry.
A single salvo as the Schleswig-Holstein felled all smiles,
Reduced credulity to stubs and stuffing, and some few numbers; jailed,
The jaded jailers who executed prisoners, usurped the common rails,
And ushered in the latest greatest war with ink in vials
From vats of half a century overshadowing the Titanic’s inauguration
Of festivities that did not cease until the fall of walls in Berlin.
That was then and this is now, and what’s become of change?
The wall’s rebuilt a hundred times over, with Israel and Lebanon in range
And quite within the reasoning of one or two half-generations’ pagination
In Syrian spectres and the gilded books of nothing gained and no one wins.
